My name is Captain Tom DeMoss, and I operate a flats and backcountry fishing business in the Florida Keys called Kemosabe Charters. I have been involved in the fishing industry and living in Islamorada for the past 30 years.

If you have never experienced fishing in Islamorada, let me tell you a bit about what we have to offer. Our area is truly a fly fisherman’s dream. Crystal clear water makes sightfishing for bonefish, tarpon and permit a thrilling experience. Islamorada takes credit for producing 9 IGFA world records for bonefish, so expect to catch above average sized fish here, as compared to Mexico and the Bahamas.

The yearly migration of large tarpon through Islamorada is a spectacular site. During May, June, and early July, there seems to be 80-100 lb. tarpon rolling everywhere. Casting to a school of 100 lb. tarpon coming at you will definitely make even the most seasoned fly caster’s heart beat a little faster. I would have to personally say that casting to, hooking and landing a 100 lb. tarpon on a fly rod has to be one of the most exciting things you can do in the sport of fly fishing.

If that isn’t enough action for you, we also have a wonderful fishery in our backyard called the Everglades National Park. This area covers many, many square miles of flats, lakes and mangrove islands which are teeming with redfish, snook, speckled trout, and tarpon—to name just a few species. These fish take a fly readily, and are great fun for the novice or seasoned fly caster.

Kemosabe Charters offers its anglers top-quality tackle to use and the option of two different types of boats for their fishing experience.

Well… I hope I have peaked your interest in coming to Islamorada and experiencing some of our world class fishing. For any information about lodging, restaurants, or anything else I can help you with, feel free to contact me.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Tight lines,
Capt. Tom DeMoss
