Another plentiful gamefish that inhabits the Backcountry is the Red Drum or Redfish. These powerful members of the drum family can be found on the flats or in the deeper water channels of the Everglade Nat. Park.

An 8-10 lb spinning outfit is usually the tackle of choice for the spin fisherman or for the fly caster a 9 wt outfit with a matching 9 wt. floating line is best.

Averaging from 3-15 lbs in weight the redfish when hooked will make powerful runs and has great fighting stamina. The redfish is also a very good tasting fish and a limit of one fish per angler is allowed. Whether you are fishing live shrimp on a spinning rod in the deeper channels or fly casting to a tailing redfish, stalking and catching redfish is great fun and very exciting.
