The Permit is unquestionably the most challenging of all of our flats and backcountry species of gamefish. A very wary and skittish fish, the Permit can be a very difficult fish to get close enough to cast to. Although a well-placed cast with a live silver dollar-sized crab will almost always spark the interest of a cruising Permit.

For the fly caster, an even greater challenge is present in getting a Permit to take a fly. A crab pattern fly called the 'Merkin' is an excellent choice.

Once hooked the Permit will usually put up an incredible fight, making long powerful runs accented by phenomenal stamina.Without a doubt The Permit is the premier gamefish species of the flats.
