The shallow water flats around the Islamorada area are known for extremely large bonefish. In fact, a number of world records for bonefish are currently held from this area.

It is not uncommon to catch a bonefish in the 8-10 lb class and occasionally one over 12 lbs.

Stalking these fish is done by poling the boat silently over the shallow flats and sight casting to individual fish or schools feeding. Light spinning tackle with 8-12 lb test line is normally used or for the fly caster, a 9 wt. Fly rod with a floating line is best.

Bonefishing on our flats takes patience and persistence, but the rewards are well worth it when you hook into one of our world-class bonefish!
